Parents, in accordance with Illinois State Law, several changes and additions have been made to our Student/Parent Handbook. It's important for all parents and students to become familiar with school policies and procedures. You can click here to view the handbook online. Students in grades 1 - 8 will be involved in MAP Testing (Measures of Academic Progress) the week of August 22, 2016. This computerized test is given in reading, language, and math. The difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all of the previous questions. The final score is an estimate of the student’s achievement level. Please remind your child of the importance of trying their very best on these tests.
Any student wanting to tryout for sports, including cheerleading, during the 2016-17 school year, must conform to the new Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) requirements and submit the two required forms prior to the first day of school on August 16, 2016. We hope to see all parents and students at our Open House. The evening will begin in the gym with a presentation from Principal Anderson, followed by our Benefit Club meeting. At the conclusion of these meetings, you will have an opportunity to visit the classrooms and meet your child’s teachers. There will also be a Book Fair and 8th Grade Bake Sale taking place in the Phyllis J. Anderson lunchroom. Benefit Club parent volunteers . . .
We hope everyone will support our parent group, Benefit Club. Dues are $5 per family. Benefit Club meetings are held five times during the school year in the Phyllis J. Anderson lunchroom. Please get involved, attend the meetings, and support the fundraising activities held throughout the school year. Some of the fundraising programs planned for this year include Yankee Candle, Heart and Home, Box Tops for Education, 5K Glow . . .
Literacy Activities for Families (L.A.F.F.) is a family oriented program that meets 4 times during the school year. This program encourages family reading time along with a wide variety of arts, crafts and computer activities. Families with children in grades PK - 5 have the opportunity to sign up. Information will be sent home with your child in advance of each program.
